History : Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University - Sociology undergraduate programme was established in the 2004-2005 academic year within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. In the 2007-2008 academic year, the programme started to accept students. Starting from the fall semester of the 2022-2023 Academic Year, the undergraduate programme continues its studies at both the primary and secondary education levels within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The Department of Sociology consists of 15 academic staff, including 5 Professors, 2 Associate Professors, 3 Assistant Professors, and 5 Research Assistants.
Qualification Awarded : Sociology undergraduate program is included in the scope of the first cycle with 240 ECTS credits in the field of sociology in higher education. Those who successfully fulfill the program requirements have a bachelor's degree in Sociology.
Level of Qualification (Short Cycle , First Cycle , Second Cycle, Third Cycle) : Bachelor's degree, 1st Cycle
Specific Admission Requirements : 1. To graduate from secondary education institutions or foreign secondary education institutions, the equivalence of which is approved by the Ministry of National Education, and to meet the admission requirements for undergraduate programs of higher education institutions.

2. To be placed in the relevant undergraduate program of the higher education institution as a result of the central examination conducted by the Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM), the procedures and principles of which are determined by YÖK.

3. To have received sufficient points as a result of the central examination held by ÖSYM for the programs of higher education institutions that accept students with a special talent test, the procedures and principles of which are determined by YÖK and to have succeeded in the special talent test.

4. As a result of the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS), the procedures and principles of which are determined by YÖK and conducted by ÖSYM, to be placed in undergraduate programs that are a continuation of the fields they have completed in higher education institutions for associate degree graduates.
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal) : In the recognition of previous education, the provisions of the "Regulation on the Principles of Transfer between Associate Degree and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, Minor and Inter-Institutional Credit Transfer in Higher Education Institutions" are applied.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations : In order to obtain a sociology undergraduate degree, the student must complete a minimum of 240 ECTS course credits, taking into account the compulsory and elective course loads, and a GPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00.
Profile of The Programme : Sociology undergraduate program is an 8-semester program consisting of 240 ECTS.
The program is “First Cycle” defined in the “Qualifications Framework for European Higher Education Area; QF-EHEA; and "Level 6" defined in the “Turkish Higher Education Qualifications Framework (TYYÇ)”. 
It provides the "Level 6" qualifications defined in the "European Qualifications Framework for Lifelong Learning; EQF/LLL".
Sociology undergraduate program is also in "Level 6" (Bachelor's degree) according to the International Standard Classification of Education (ISCED, 2013).

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples : The grad students has the title of “sociologist”. Because of the multidimensional structure of sociology science, sociologists have opportunities of employment at most of public and private sectors. Some of the public sectors are Ministry of Work, Ministry of Family and Social Affairs, The Ministry of Public Works and Settlement,The Ministry of Health.
Access to Further Studies : Students who successfully complete the 4-year undergraduate program may progress to the graduate (second cycle/third cycle) programs. Departmental admission requirements for graduate study vary. However, an above average GPA and ALES (Exam for academic staff and entrance into a graduate program) score (min. 55 out of 100), and proficiency in a foreign language are generally required prerequisites for application. The successful candidates are invited for an interview or written exam measuring competency in the related field depending on departmental rules and regulations.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading : The procedures and principles stated in article 26 of the 7th section of Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University Associate Degree-Undergraduate Education and Examination Regulation published in the Official Gazette on 07.05.2014 are valid. This item is quoted below.

(1) The student's success grade is calculated by taking 40% of the average of the grades received from the semester education activities (midterm/exams, practice, internship, seminar, project, homework, laboratory etc.) given over 100 points, and 60% of the final or make-up exam grade given over 100 points. Letter grade and ECTS grade are given according to the “Success Grade Evaluation Table”.

(2) In order to be considered successful in a course, in addition to other requirements, it is necessary to get at least 50 points from the final or make-up exam for that course. If the grade of the students who cannot get this score is below 40, it is FF, and if it is 40 and above, it is FD.

(3) As stated in subparagraph (i) of the first paragraph of Article 5 of the Law No. 2547, the (YE) and (YS) grades taken from the common compulsory courses and the (DS) grades taken for the non-credit courses are not taken into account in the calculation of the weighted grade point average. However, the equivalent of the (DS) grade is 0.00 in credit courses.

(4) Students are not given a grade lower than the grade corresponding to the grades shown in the table below. In the success grade evaluation, also, a letter/ECTS grade higher than the letter/ECTS grades corresponding to the grades specified in the table cannot be given.

(5) For a credit course according to the success grade evaluation table;

a) If a student has taken one of the grades (AA), (BA), (BB), (CB) or (CC) from a credit course, he/she is considered to have succeeded in that course.

b) If she has received one of the grades (DC) or (DD) and her GPA is 2.00 and above, he/she is considered conditionally successful.

c) If he has received one of the grades (DC) or (DD) and his GPA is below 2.00, he is considered conditionally unsuccessful.

ç) If he/she gets one of the (FD) and (FF) grades, he/she is considered unsuccessful.

d) If he/she does not fulfill the attendance requirement, he/she is considered absent (DS).

e) In the absence and success evaluations of non-credit courses and internships, (YE) means sufficient, (YS) insufficient, and (DS) absenteeism.

f) As a result of taking an exam that the student does not deserve to take, the grade. 
Graduation Requirements : In order to graduate from this undergraduate programme, the students are required 
- to succeed in all of the courses listed in the curriculum of the program by getting the grade of at least DD/S with a minimum of 240 ECTS
- to have a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.00 out of 4.00 (CGPA is calculated based on local credits).
